The Fourteenth Goldfish

I just finished reading The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer Holm. It was about a grandfather who found a way to make himself into a teenage again. He goes back and has to experience middle school all over again. The book is great at weaving in science and science history into the narrative. It also has some deep philosophical points to the book such as:

"Middle school is like one of those highway restrooms in the middle of nowhere. It's dirty and smelly, and it's crowded with strange people. By the time I graduated from elementary school, I knew everyone. I had watched them grow up and they watched me...But in middle school there a so many new kids. Some seem like they're from different planets."

While I do not completely agree with it being dirty and smelly, I do agree that it is an interesting time in one's life that we all go through. We look back at this time with fond memories of making friends and not so fond memories of awkward moments, that we wish we could forget. But if it was not for those awkward moments, we would not be the people we are today.

Goal 1:

One more week and one more book to go. I will need to make time to read it this weekend when I am visiting my parents in Connecticut celebrating my nephew's first birthday.
